In 1993 when Ken McCarthy took over the Somers High School Lacrosse program, a team he was a part of before going to Springfield College, he swore to keep the identity and character associated with the programs founder, Lee Pinny. Pinny was a local farmer and graduate of Cornell University, where he found the game of lacrosse. Since graduating, Pinny has given acres of his land to the sport of lacrosse. Since McCarthy received the reigns he has made the Somers Spartan program into a quiet leader in the northern Connecticut lacrosse scene with 366 career wins and 23 consecutive state tournament appearances. Returning players Christian Paley and Dom Giachello the Somers Spartans look back on 2016 being the first team from Somers to win a state championship in 10 years.
