To open the 2017 lacrosse season, the Providence College Friars men's lacrosse team hosted the Boston University Terriers at Chapey Field in Providence, RI. In a rematch of last season, the Friars looked to avenge an early season loss and continue to build a budding program while Boston looked to continue its success in their fourth season as a Division One program. After a back and forth affair that was tied at three heading into the half, the Friars jumped out to a 7-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter, carried by five points from sophomore Brendan Kearns, However, the Terriers would battle back, scoring four unanswered goals to force overtime. After a scoreless first period of extra time, Boston sophomore Brendan Homire buried the game winner on a man up advantage to give the Terriers a dramatic 8-7 win.
