The all new STX Eclipse 2 goalie lacrosse head boasts some major advancements to the best selling goalie head of all time, the STX Eclipse. STX made four significant enhancements to the Eclipse 2 lacrosse goalie head that we think will be a big hit with high school and collegiate level lacrosse goalies. eclipse 2 blog 1) Increased stiffness without an increase in weight. The old STX Eclipse lacrosse goalie head came in at a very light 11.2 ounces. The newly designed STX Eclipse 2 lacrosse goalie head comes in at only 11.4 ounces, which isn‚Äôt really noticeable, but is awesome considering the fact that it is much, much stiffer. The strengthened sidewalls are notable one of the best enhancements. The lacrosse head has stiffer plastic that got hollowed out on the support trusses to eliminate the weight. Where most of this stiffness comes in handy is when you have those saves up towards the scoop of the stick that can tend to instantaneously warp and bend the head and give up a goal. eclipse-two-stiff 2) The throat of the stick. Gone are the old bottom string fastening holes all over the base of the stick. These knots used to rub through goalies gloves. STX replaced these with a new, textured and ergonomic hand holder, right at the base of the throat. The holes have been moved up to the actual base of the head which also allows for more bag at the base and a better channel up the pocket. The texture provides a sleek looking new grip for the thumb, which any goalie will tell you is the starting point for driving that top hand towards the save. Duel screw holes lock the shaft down better than ever and compliment the rest of the redesign. eclipse-two-throat 3) The scoop. We discussed the enhanced stiffness of the STX Eclipse 2 lacrosse goalie head, but we also need to point out the new scoop. The number of string holes has been reduced to seven. This allows professional stringers to have some freedom with respect to how that top mesh piece needs to be. Sometimes too tight equals rips. The new design gives a bit more cushion at the top of the mesh but still allows a perfect channel and release platform. STX also flattened the curve of the scoop to make it a tiny bit wider for ground balls. As any modern goalie will tell you, they are expected to get out of the cage and win some GB’s and every little bit helps! eclipse-two-scoop 4) The stringing configuration. The string holes on the side rails have been tweaked to allow better knot holds and a larger variety of stringing options. Here at Lax.com we string these with a deep lower middle bag that works its way up to the throw strings with an awesome channel for both high floating passes and low zingers. Make sure to use quality sidewall strings here fella - big difference in performance. 5) Shortened lacrosse shaft. The last thing to mention is that the new, shortened, Outlet goalie shaft. This is pure genius. Goalies handle their sticks in different ways and STX fully changed to a teardrop shape with amazing feel for the thumbs while in the ready position or passing. STX shortened up the traditional 40 inch length to 34 - 4 inches longer than an attack shaft. That comes in really handy on ground balls and clears, but light and small enough to not hurt hand speed. So get in on the action and try out what the best high school and collegiate lacrosse goalies in the nation will be using this season - the STX Eclipse 2 lacrosse goalie head and Outlet shaft.
