In the 2017 Patriot Cup held at The Star in Frisco, Texas, the Georgetown University men's lacrosse team took on former Big East lacrosse rival, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Opening the season as the fourth ranked team in the country, the Irish looked to open the season with a win against the Hoyas for the second straight year, after defeating Georgetown 12-7 in the 2016 Cobb County Classic. From the opening whistle, the Irish took control and never looked back, paced by sophomore standout Ryder Garnsey. The 2016 ACC lacrosse Freshman of the Year tallied a career high six goals while also adding two assists, to help lead the Irish to a 16-10 lead. Georgetown received an outstanding effort from senior Peter Conley, who talled five goals in the loss, and junior goalie Nick Marrocco who had a game high 15 saves. Notre dame will look to move to 2-0 on the season when it returns home to host the Michigan Wolverines, while Georgetown will look for its first win of the 2017 college lacrosse season when it hosts Towson in their home opener.
