(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #9-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team held off a late run by visiting Washington College for a 9-8 win to open Centennial Conference play on Saturday at Biddle Field. Washington struck first as Kevin Trapp scored off an assist from Tyler Powers, just over two minutes into the game. The Red Devils tallied a pair of late goals in the first quarter. Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) finished an assist from Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Max Menkes (Potomac, Md./Bullis) scored from Alex Hosker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) with just 24 seconds to play in the first quarter. Sophomore Brodie Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) stretched the lead to 3-1 in the opening minute of the second period. Powers countered for Washington before Strods returned the favor with an assist to Maher at the nine-minute mark. Dickinson tacked on a pair to take a 6-2 advantage into halftime. First-year Nick Goles (Monkton, Md./Loyola Blakefield) found the net with a helper from Maher and long pole midfielder Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) put away an assist from Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) at the 4:18 mark. The Devils outscored the Shoremen, 3-2, in the third quarter to hold a 9-4 advantage. Strods struck in the opening 54 seconds with Tyler Llewellyn (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and Carney adding goals as well. The Shoremen would chip away with the only four goals of the fourth. Trapp scored unassisted at the 9:36 mark, and Tanner Barbieri and Powers found the net at 3:45 and 3:25 to make the score 9-7. Washington capitalized on a late penalty with an extra-man goal, with just 14 seconds to play in regulation. The Red Devils were able to possess the face-off as Usich won the draw and claimed the ground ball. Nine players marked the scoring column with a goal or assist. Strods scored twice with an assist while Maher added two assists and a goal on the day. Usich picked up four GBs and caused a big turnover late in the game.
