Washington & Lee got off to a blistering start as they got the first two goals of the game. Ryan Brady fired the game's opening salvo with a goal a mere 32 seconds into the game. Joe Perrella made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal with 9:55 left in the first quarter.
• The Spartans got on the board 1:12 later as the Green and White took advantage of a man-up chance as Thomas Pfeiffer fed Hunter Davis who banged home the shot for the Spartans.
• The Generals made it 3-1 with a Johnathan Henry goal but Matt Whitcher answered just over a minute later as W&L held a 3-2 lead with 5:18 left in the quarter.
• The Generals hit York with back-to-back goals for the second time in the quarter with the second being a man-up goal from Perella. The three goal lead for the Generals was the largest lead of the game for either team. The Spartans got to within two at 5-3 when Pfeiffer tallied York's second man-up goal of the quarter with a goal off a pass from Cameron Leech with just 33 seconds left in the period.
• The Spartan offense got rolling in the second quarter as they scored three straight to open the period as the Green and White took a 6-5 lead. Davis, Brendan McGrath and Austin Glab scored the goals to open the second.
• The Generals tied the game on a Sam Dardani goal with 4:28 left in the half. York answered with another McGrath goal with 3:32 left in the quarter as the Spartan lead was 7-6. The Generals tied the game again on a Whit Griffin goal with 2:42 left. The Spartans killed off a penalty after the goal and had possession in the final 30 seconds of the half but couldn't get a good look before the halftime horn.
• The Spartans scored first after the half as Pfeiffer scored off a pass from McGrath, giving York an 8-7 lead 1:55 into the quarter. The Generals ripped off three straight goals as they pushed out to a 10-8 lead with 5:39 left in the third. York got a huge goal with 42 seconds left in the period as Davis found the back of the net off a pass from Leech, cutting York's deficit to 10-9.
• Pfeiffer opened the fourth quarter scoring with a man-up goal 1:23 into the final period, knotting the score at 10. A.J. Witherell gave the Generals their final lead of the day with a goal 2:31 later as the hosts took an 11-10 lead. York's Ryan Cook slid a shot inside the right post less than a minute later off a pass from Whitcher, tying the game at 11 with 10:19 left in the game.
• The Spartans had a series of four consecutive shots but a tripping penalty gave the Generals possession with 4:54 left in regulation. J.D. Beck forced a W&L turnover and picked up a ground ball, giving York possession. After a pair of Spartan shots, the Generals got a Spartan turnover but W&L was called for offsides, giving York possession with 2:03 left. York would work the ball around the perimeter until Pfeiffer found Davis for the game-winner with 1:11 left in the game.
• The Generals won the ensuing face off and Witherall fired a shot high. W&L got another shot but Landry Marshall registered the game-saving save. Beck would cause a turnover after the ground ball pick up and the Spartans would earn their first win of the year.
