Wheaton juniors Josh Talanian and Alex Stomberg both netted four goals in the win, while Scott Whear and CJ Leighton each recorded two. Matt Morgan and Griffin Phaneuf rounded out the scoring for the Lyons. Whear added a game-high four assists to his two goals, while Leighton dished out three assists, while Maxwell McLaughlin and Morgan each finished with two assists. Max Stone ended the game with a hat-trick for the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales, while teammates Ben Farrell and Sam Sears each chipped in two goals. Chandler Miller collected the win for the Lyons after playing 34:15 in goal, coming up with five saves on the nine shots he faced. Johnson & Wales took an early lead in the opening quarter, but Wheaton responded with a Phaneuf goal minutes later. The Wildcats would go on to score two more goals while limiting the Lyons to just one to take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter. The second quarter saw three goals by each team, sending Johnson & Wales into the intermission with a 6-5 advantage. The Lyons dominated the third quarter of action, scoring five unanswered goals in the frame. Wheaton captured its first lead of the contest with 10:19 left in the quarter with Whear finding Stomberg for his third goal of the game. Wheaton would not trail the rest of the way. Wheaton kept the pressure on in the fourth quarter, opening the frame with two goals from Talanian and Whear. Johnson & Wales was able to find a little of momentum in the final seven minutes of the game, responding with three goals to cut the deficit to 14-9.
