With 1:33 left in the second overtime period, senior goalkeeper Jake Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) made a big save on a bid from Endicott's A.J. MacDonald (New Fairfield, Conn.) then hit a streaking Anthony Sullivan (Westfield, Mass.) for a transition chance, before the sophomore defensive midfielder slid a pass over to junior attackman Jack Vail (Franklin, Mass.), who found the back of the net with 1:23 to play, lifting the Springfield College men's lacrosse team to a thrilling 8-7 victory on Sunday afternoon at Stagg Field. With the win, the Pride capped a 3-0 week as Springfield College beat Union, No. 6 Cortland and now Endicott to improve to 4-2 on the year. The loss drops Endicott to 0-4 overall. The maroon and white owned a 37-34 advantage in shots, while Endicott picked up 29 ground balls compared to the Pride's 28. In net for the Pride, Reynolds finished with 10 saves, including two big stops in the second overtime period, while Endicott's Patrick Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.) was solid in between the pipes, registering 12 saves in the setback. At the face-off "x", Springfield's Joe Cameron (Stoneham, Mass.) was 6-for-19, while Endicott's Derek Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) enjoyed a 12-for-19 performance and picked up five ground balls. Leading Springfield College offensively was the trio of Duncan Preston (South Portland, Maine), Lucas Habich (Little Silver, N.J.) and Jack Vail (Franklin, Mass.), as they eached registered a pair of goals, while the Gulls were led by Nick Arcadipane (Groveland, Mass.), who totaled four points on two goals and two assists. Defensively, Sullivan finished with four caused turnovers, four ground balls and the game-winning assist, while Chris Cunnington (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) also picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Springfield College got on the board first when Cole Pecora (North Haven, Conn.) stung one in transition to give the Pride a 1-0 lead, before Habich pulled off a great face dodge and found the back of the net to give the maroon and white an early 2-0 advantage. With 8:48 on the clock, Endicott's Will Clark (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) made a great move off the end line and finished just above goal-line extended to make it 2-1. Neither side would score again for the rest of the first quarter. Opening the second, Endicott's Matthew Faucher (Western Springs, Ill.) and Arcadipane found twine to make it 3-2, Gulls, before Habich buried feed from Tom Hurley (Goffstown, N.H.) to pull the Pride even at three with 9:36 to play in the first half. At the 7:27 mark, Clark picked up his second of the day to give Endicott a 4-3 advantage, a lead it would carry into the second half. The Gulls scored the lone goal of the third quarter on a great shot from Chris Reilly (Westwood, Mass.), before taking a three-goal lead just 2:00 into the fourth quarter when Jack Sutherland (Sudbury, Mass.) converted a feed from Clark. With 9:42 to play, Pecora found Vail on the doorstep for an easy catch-and-finish to spark some momentum for Springfield College, which resulted in four unanswered goal, including one from Hurley and a pair from Preston just 54 seconds apart to give the Pride a 7-6 lead with 4:21 to play. Coming out of a timeout with less than 30 seconds to play, Arcadipane dodged from the wing and was able to sneak one past Reynolds with 12 seconds left, thus forcing an overtime period. Back-and-forth play highlighted the first overtime period, as both teams turned the ball over a combined five times, resulting in no score, leading to a double overtime period. There, Springfield College looked to have a great chance in transition but Dean made a great point-blank save on Hurley, before Reynolds countered with a save of his own, sending Sullivan on a fast break, where he found Vail for the game winner. Next up, Springfield College will return to Stagg Field on Saturday, March 24 when the Pride plays host to cross-town rival Western New England at 2:30 p.m.
