MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - In a battle of conference unbeatens, the Rhodes College men's lacrosse team rose to the occasion and earned a monumental 10-9 win over Berry to remain atop the SAA Standings. The Lynx were out shot by the Vikings by a slim margin, 37-36, but the two teams were even in shots on target at 21 a piece. Rhodes picked up 37 ground balls and were 12 of 22 in face offs. It was a relatively low game for turnovers with Rhodes committing 13 and forcing 12. Rhodes took advantage of Berry penalties all throughout the first quarter to build a 3-1 lead. Sophomore John Tooher got the scoring started early followed by a goal from sophomore Tyler Milwit to make it 2-0. After a goal by Berry, Rhodes scored their third man up goal of the quarter as Tooher notched his second goal for a 3-1 lead at the end of one. Berry responded quickly in the second, scoring three straight goals in the first eight minutes to take their first lead of the contest at 4-3. Freshman Addison Mueller got a goal for Rhodes as time expired for to tie it at four at the break. Rhodes retook the lead to start the second half on a goal by senior Jason Lee. The two teams exchanged goals as Milwit picked up his second before Rhodes rattled off three straight goals moving into the fourth from junior Steven Yowan, Mueller, and sophomore Tommy Reingruber to make it 9-6. However, Berry had another responded, scoring three goals in a span of three minutes midway through the fourth to tie things at nine a piece. With 3:16 remaining in the game, Milwit found the back of the net for his third goal of the game and a 10-9 lead. Berry would threaten in the final minute of play, but with less than 25 seconds to play, sophomore Cameron Link made a pair of huge saves and cleared the ball away to give Rhodes the gigantic road win. Milwit led the way with three points while Tooher, Lee, Mueller, and freshman Ethan Garland all had two points. Lee finished with a goal and assist while Garland had two assists. Yowan and Reingruber each had a goal while junior Ryan Fennelly had an assist. Seniors John Wancowicz and Mike Knudsen each had two caused turnovers while freshman J.J. Hoots had five ground balls, going 12 of 21 in face offs. Wancowicz, Knudsen, and Tooher all had four ground balls. Link was terrific, finishing with 12 saves in goal.
