Junior midfielder Aaron Maslow and sophomore attacker Coby Petau combined for eight goals as Colorado College overcame an early four-goal deficit to defeat MIT, 16-8, on Monday afternoon at Washburn Field. The Tigers improved to 8-1 overall and 5-0 at home, where they have outscored their opponents 96-32. Maslow, who set season highs with four goals and six points, struck twice during a 3-0 surge that cut CC's deficit to 4-3 with 6:02 remaining in the first quarter. After senior attacker Graham Davis gave the Engineers a 5-3 cushion with the third of his team-leading four tallies, Petau capped a 5-0 run with a natural hat trick that gave the Tigers an 8-5 lead. Petau scored for the first time with 4.7 seconds remaining in the first quarter. His second was the only goal of the second quarter, and his third was the first score of the second half. Senior midfielder Jack Kelly's goal off of a feed from Davis pulled MIT to within 8-6, but Colorado College responded with markers from junior midfielders Tom Haller and Tyler Borko, the last of which was scored with less than a second remaining in the third quarter. Goals by senior midfielder Mitch Turley and Davis helped the Engineers get back to within three at 11-8, but Maslow scored twice and added an assist as the Tigers answered with five consecutive goals to close out the game. Borko produced three goals and an assist for CC, while senior attacker Robbie Stern scored twice and added a pair of assists. Sophomore midfielder Ben Sudduth and freshman attacker John Sutro each had two assists. At the other end of the field, the Colorado College defense allowed only four goals during the final 53:48. The Tigers caused 17 of MIT's 26 turnovers, with senior defender Riley Hoffman, junior defender Jack Ammons and senior midfielder Sam Mathai recording two apiece. "We responded well after the fast start by MIT," head coach Sean Woods said. "Our defense was solid the rest of the game. Defeating MIT is a nice win." Ammons and junior midfielder Parker Woo led CC with six ground balls. Sophomore goaltender Andrew Harwood made eight saves for the Tigers and lowered his season goals-against average to 8.49 Colorado College finished with a 49-40 advantage in total shots and a 28-27 edge in ground balls. Junior midfielder Victor Fink made 14 saves for the Engineers, who slipped to 4-2. Turley scored twice for MIT, while freshman Nicolas Gianni had a pair of assists. Freshman Luke Gianni won 16 of 23 faceoffs as the Engineers won 20 of 28 as a team. Colorado College plays host to Williams College on Friday at 1 p.m. MT.
