GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 9, 2017) – Junior attacker Jack Crowley and sophomore attacker Ryan D'Alessandro each scored six points in a 14-7 victory for Drew University men's lacrosse over Greensboro College to cap the two-game Southern road trip with a 2-0 record. By the Numbers The Rangers' second straight win evens their record at 2-2. The Pride drop to 1-5 on their fifth consecutive loss. Nine of Drew's 14 goals were assisted in a game that saw 22 Rangers hit the field. Top Performers • Crowley's six-pack of points came on a career-high four goals (all in the second half) and two assists as he runs his scoring streak to four straight games. The junior also scooped four groundballs and turned the ball over just once. • D'Alessandro scored twice and beautifully facilitated the attack with a career-high four assists. All four of his assists were credited on Crowley's goals, and each in a big spot in the game to help Drew maintain a three or four-goal advantage. • Junior faceoff specialist Joe Palmieri had his best career outing at the X in the win, taking 15-of-18 and grabbing a game-high 10 groundballs in the process. The Difference The early offensive tone set the stage for Drew's 14-goal outburst, the most in a game since a 16-7 win over Bard on March 25, 2015. After surrendering the first goal of the game, the Rangers rattled off three straight to end the first quarter up 3-1, then scored two more to open the second with a 5-1 lead. Five difference Rangers found the back of the net during that spurt, including freshman attacker Seamus O'Connor, senior defender Michael Lloyd, freshman midfielder Kevin Goettlich, D'Alessandro and sophomore midfielder Brendan Hamm. Highlights • D'Alessandro fed Crowley for two straight goals within 2:30 early in the third quarter for a 7-2 lead, including one on the man-up advantage. • Greensboro went on a 3-1 run to get as close as 8-5 before a quick three-goal spurt by the Rangers on goals from Crowley, Goettlich and D'Alessandro. The trio put the Rangers up 11-5 following the high-scoring third quarter, which Drew won 6-3. • Drew kept the pressure up in the fourth on Crowley's fourth tally, another from O'Connor and a man-down goal scored by freshman attacker Nicholas Polacek for his first career tally. • Senior goalkeeper Teddy Sweeney made nine saves in the first half to earn the win. Freshman Nate Sanders finished off the Drew victory with three stops in the second half. Stat Sheet • Drew outshot the Pride 39-29, and impressively put 29 of those shots on target. The Greensboro goalie made 15 saves in the setback. • Both teams were good on the clear with Drew succeeding on 22-of-26 and Greensboro on 16-of-18. • The Rangers dominated the battle for groundballs, 39-21, and similarly owned the faceoff war thanks to Palmieri, 17-5. • Both teams scored two man-up goals, with Drew's coming on three tries and Greensboro's on five.
