Five different players finished with two goals apiece and Babson College head coach Brendan Gorman became the program's all-time wins leader with his 86th career victory as the Beavers defeated visiting Emerson College, 19-4, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field. With its third straight win, Babson improves to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in league play, while Emerson slips to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC. Junior Samuel Mishkind (Chappaqua, N.Y.), sophomores Thomas Jung (Vienna, Va.) and Matthew MacCune (Braintree, Mass.), and first-year Ade Akande (Charlotte, N.C.) and Will Messner (South Kingstown, R.I.) each scored twice for the Beavers. Jung and first-year Mason O'Hanlon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) both dished out two assists and senior Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and sophomore Andrew Tymkiv (Oakville, Ontario) made eight and four saves in the win, respectively. Senior Joseph Riccardi (Ridgewood, N.J.) scooped up a team-high four ground balls and first-year Jack Tague (Fairfield, Conn.) led all players with four caused turnovers for the Green and White. Akande and junior Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) extended the margin to 6-1 early in the second and Babson ripped off the final seven goals of the half, including tallies by sophomore Owen Allen (Franklin, Mass.), Jung and sophomore James Rovegno (Duxbury, Mass.) in the span of 75 seconds to make it 13-2 at the half. Akande notched the only goal of the third quarter late in the frame and the Beavers outscored Emerson 5-2 over the final 15 minutes. Sophomore Owen Peterson (San Diego, Calif.) and classmate Thomas Calvert (Melrose, Mass.) both tallied the first goals of their respective careers in the fourth quarter for the Green and White. The Beavers, who matched their season high with 12 caused turnovers, scored on their only man-up opportunity.
