Junior Samuel Mishkind (Chappaqua, N.Y.) scored a career-high six goals as Babson College defeated visiting Curry College, 15-11, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at MacDowell Field. With the win, Babson improves to 2-2 on the year, while Curry slips to 0-2. First-year Mason O'Hanlon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) scored a season-high four goals and classmate Ethan Carpenter (Orlando, Fla.) added two markers for the Beavers. Senior Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) and sophomore Owen Allen (Franklin, Mass.) each finished with a goal and two assists, and Mishkind scooped up a team-high seven ground balls in the win. Sophomore Christopher Aranalde (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), first-year Mac Mowat (Bellevue, Wash.), senior Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and sophomore Andrew Tymkiv (Oakville, Ontario) combined to make nine saves for Babson. Junior MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) scored four goals and senior Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.) had three goals and two assists to lead the Colonels. Juniors Zach White (Milford, Conn.) and Dylan Cromwell (Fairhaven, Mass.) combined to win 18-of-27 face-offs, White led all players with 12 ground balls, and junior Josh Teller (Milford, Conn.) stopped eight first-half shots in the loss. Curry got a pair of goals from junior Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) and built a 4-2 lead with 47 seconds to go in the first quarter on Urbano's first strike of the day. Mishkind notched two straight goals to tie the game and Carpenter followed with the first of his two tallies to give the Green and White a 5-4 lead with 3:34 to go I the second quarter. The Beavers led 6-5 at halftime and pulled away by outscoring the Colonels 5-0 in the third quarter. O'Hanlon opened the run at the 11:11 mark, Mishkind made it 8-5 with 6:34 left, and Brown followed with an extra-man goal at 5:32 to extend the margin to four. Allen converted a feed from Mishkind 47 seconds later and Carpenter scored late in the frame to make it 11-5 going to the fourth. Mishkind scored twice in the final stanza and Babson extended the lead to 15-7, its largest of the game, with 6:13 to go in the contest. Urbano notched a pair of goals and Cashin completed his hat trick as Curry scored four times over the final six minutes. Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Rensselaer at 12 p.m., while Curry takes on Castleton in its home opener at 2 p.m. GAME NOTES • The Beavers are 4-1 all-time against Curry and Tuesday's game was the first between the programs since 1990. • Mishkind has scored at least three goals in nine of the last 14 games and has four or more tallies in three of four contests this season. • After finishing with 16 extra-man goals last season, Babson has struck four 11 man-up markers over its first four outings this spring. • The Beavers are 16-6 at MacDowell Field going back to April 2015.
