Senior Austin Fabel (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and junior Samuel Mishkind (Chappaqua, N.Y.) combined for nine goals as visiting Babson College defeated Skidmore College, 17-13, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon Wachenheim Field. Fabel scored five times and Mishkind had four goals for the Beavers. Frist-year Mason O'Hanlon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) finished with three goals and two assists, while senior Taylor Segreti (North Potomac, Md.) and junior Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) each scored twice in the win. First-year Will Messner (South Kingstown, R.I.) won 7-of-13 face-offs, classmate Jack Tague (Fairfield, Conn.) scooped up a team-high six ground balls and sophomore goalkeeper Christopher Aranalde (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) turned away 14 shots in the victory. Senior Jack Curry (Holliston, Mass.) had four goals, junior Eric Megnia (West Barnstable, Mass.) added three goals, and senior Brandon Halloran (Pleasantville, N.Y) and first-year Zac Parker (Granby, Conn.) netted two goals apiece. First-year Alex Miller (Scarsdale, N.Y) caused a game-high three turnovers for Skidmore. The Green and White played from in front all day, building a 4-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Skidmore notched a pair of man-up tallies to cut its deficit to 4-2 at the end of the first quarter, but Mishkind, Segreti and Fabel scored three times in the span 2:29 to push the lead back to 7-2 early in the second. The Thoroughbreds pulled within 8-5 just before the half and got as close as 11-9 on a goal by Curry with 6:05 to go in the third quarter. Mishkind scored at the 2:16 mark to extend the margin to three, and then capped a four-goal run with his fourth of the day to make it 15-9 with 12:13 left in the fourth. Skidmore got as close as 16-13 with 3:41 to go in the fourth, but O'Hanlon tacked on an insurance marker with 1:36 to go for the final margin. The Thoroughbreds finished with a 48-36 edge in shots, and a 46-31 advantage in ground balls while converting 11-of-11 clear attempts, while the beavers converted 16-of-21 clear attempts, and led in saves, 14-5. Both teams return to action on Wednesday as Babson travels to Bates for a 5:00 p.m. match, while Skidmore take son Clark at 4:00 p.m.
